The Sophie Martin Bourgogne Chardonnay 2022 is produced by Domaine Vincent et Sophie Morey, a family-owned winery located in Chassagne-Montrachet, in the Burgundy region of France. The Morey family has a winemaking tradition dating back to 1643. Vincent Morey, the tenth generation, and his wife Sophie currently manage 20 hectares of vineyards in the villages of Cheilly-lès-Maranges, Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, and Puligny-Montrachet.

This wine is made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes sourced from four small plots located in Puligny, Chassagne, and Santenay, totaling 0.55 hectares. The vines, planted in 1980, 1990, and 2006, are southwest-facing and sit at an average altitude of 220 meters on clay-rich soils.

As for the winemaking process, after harvest, the grapes undergo fermentation at controlled temperatures in oak barrels. During this process, regular batonnage (stirring of the lees) is performed to give the wine a richer texture and buttery notes. The aging continues until August, with half of the wine maturing in oak barrels (20% of which are new) and the other half in stainless steel tanks.

The result is a Chardonnay with a pale yellow color, featuring subtly smoky aromas and notes of melon. On the palate, it is rich and fresh, with vibrant acidity, mineral nuances, buttery and toasted hints, and a balanced structure that leads to a smooth finish.
