The Pierre-Marie Chermette Beaujolais “Origine” Vieilles Vignes 2022 is a red wine produced by Famille Chermette, a family-run winery located in Saint-Vérand, in the Beaujolais region of France. Founded in 1986, the winery combines tradition and innovation to craft authentic terroir-driven wines.
Region:
Saint-Vérand is located in southern Beaujolais, in an area known as the Pierres Dorées. Although the region is predominantly clay-limestone, the vineyards for this cuvée are situated in a granite enclave, similar to the soils of Beaujolais Villages.
Grape Varieties:
This wine is made from 100% Gamay grapes, sourced from vines between 35 and 100 years old. The vines are trained using the Gobelet and Cordon de Royat pruning systems, with a planting density of 9,000 vines per hectare.
Winemaking Process:
The winemaking follows the traditional Beaujolais method known as semi-carbonic maceration. This includes two pump-overs per day and a maceration period of 6 days in cement and stainless steel tanks. No chaptalization or added yeasts are used, and only a minimal amount of sulfur dioxide (SO₂) is added. The wine is aged for 4 to 6 months in old oak casks, allowing for controlled oxygenation.
Tasting Notes:
• Color: Bright garnet red with purple highlights.
• Nose: Aromas of wild red berries, flowers, and a hint of white pepper.
• Palate: A tender and fleshy entry, bursting with fresh, juicy ripe fruit. Enveloping and silky tannins with good length and a finish of white pepper.
Pairings:
This Beaujolais pairs well with a variety of dishes, including meats, charcuterie, Lyonnais specialties, Bresse chicken, guinea fowl, quail, veal, red meats, cheeses like Comté, and ganache-based desserts.
Serving Temperature and Aging Potential:
• Serving Temperature: 59-61°F (15-16°C).
• Aging Potential: Best enjoyed within the next 2 to 4 years.
This signature wine from Famille Chermette reflects their commitment to crafting natural and authentic wines, staying true to the traditions of Beaujolais winemaking.
