Bhilar Garnacha “Phinca el Vedao” 2018

Bodegas Bhilar is a small winery located in Elvillar, Rioja Alavesa, run by the husband and wife team, David Sampedro and Melanie Hickman. Their goal is to make wines with soul from the terroir, respecting the land, working only with native grapes, and sharing their unique wines with good-spirited people. In 1999, David became interested in and began learning about biodynamic philosophy, which changed his vision and how he cared for his vines. He first transitioned to organic agriculture and then began applying that knowledge to restore harmony between man, land, vines, and cosmos. In 2014, tractors were eliminated, and horses returned to work the vines. Phinca El Vedao is one of the few single-varietal wines in David Sampedro's collection at his Bhilar winery. Its name comes from a plot, divided into three terraces, in the town of Elvillar. This red wine delivers a version of Rioja Garnacha that stands out for its balsamic and herbaceous profile. Serious and flavorful, it has fine tannins and a pleasantly rustic touch.
